Hey all,

I'm doing some research into buying a nice bottle of Whisky for someone.

I'll likely have upwards of €120 to spend.

I know this person owns (or has owned) the following bottles already

Glenfiddich Vintage Cask
Glenfiddich 30
Glenfiddich 12
The Glenlivet 21
Auchentoshan 21
The Balvenie Madeira Cask 17
Nikka Whisky From The Barrel
Blue Label JW

I'm not seeing any Islay in there, so probably don't want to go down the peated route, just in case.

I'm not averse to splitting the budget to go for a cheaper & dearer option, or two different bottles around the same price point.

Any advice?

Can personally recommend Lagavulin 16 year single Malt Scotch.

Had it for the 1st time over the weekend and it had a lovely peaty taste and extremely smooth. Also, a good price €70ish, so much so i'm ordering a bottle myself.

I'm not a huge fan of Whisky with no age statement, but am a huge fan of Macalan.

I think Glengoyne do great whisky, I was a big fan of their 17 Year old, this has now been replaced with an 18 year old and it is also very good:

Obviously if you go down the 2 bottle route, there are more options, but probably better going with one really good bottle if its a gift.

Not judging by the list above, no. And the person would have access to similar standard Irish whiskeys should they so wish, and I've never heard them mention Irish.

Finally from me, if you wanted something a bit different, this is a Japanese whisky that gets very good reviews..

It is about as old an Arran as you can get.

Don't shoot me, but I'm personally not a huge fan of Maccallan. I think they've produced some nice whiskies but that they're generally overrated and can be very over-sherried.

Since they seem to like speysides you could try Glenglassaugh - it's a lovely, less well-known speyside.

Alternatively, Master of Malt do a good range where you can order a 3cl sample and so try it before you take the plunge (e.g. https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/glenburgie/glenburgie-19-year-old-1995-single-cask-master-of-malt-whisky/)

I see a Japanese Whiskey there. I can personally recommend Suntory Hibiki 12 year old. It is an amazing whiskey and extremely drinkable. The only problem is that it's in a 500ml bottle so it disappears quickly.

If you are willing to chance it I'd give them a Redbreast 21 Year Old which is my absolute favourite whiskey.
