If it's a genuine Breitling I wouldn't recommend you go to eBay.

    Authorized dealer all the way.

You could pay the authorised brand premium which will be large, or you could go for a "generic" but quality leather strap and just get the shop to swap over the Breitling branded buckle. Job done, money saved.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I'd say so SD. It's a very simple job. Indeed if any jewellers expressed reluctance to do it I'd be looking elsewhere.

is replacing the strap itself easy for a jeweller?

Yep. It's a doddle TBH. About the most DIY of options on a wristwatch.

I just recently changed the strap on my Breitling also. I've had it for 6 years and decided to change it up a bit and picked up a Hirsch strap.

    Here's the one I bought
    http://www.watchobsession.co.uk/collections/hirsch-robby/products/hirsch-robby-sailcloth-effect-performance-watch-strap-in-black-red-09120940504?variant=669972017

There's a great selection of straps on that website
    http://www.watchobsession.co.uk/collections/view-all-straps

I was a bit wary of changing the strap myself as my watch has a DLC coating so if I scratched it I'd be in trouble so took it to a jeweler and they changed it in front of me in 5 minutes and managed not to scratch it.

I don't seem to have a photo of it with the strap on yet, here's a crappy photo showing how it looks beside it.
