Car in garage for over 3 weeks

    Hi All,

I left the key of my car in to a local garage about three weeks ago as it would not start. Some sort of electrical problem, starting motor/alternator.

He initially told me it would take three days. Since then it has been "haven't had a chance to get around to it", " it will be ready tomorrow" etc.

It's now over three weeks. What are my options? Can I just ask for the key back and go to another garage?

It's your car, take it back whenever you want.

Yeah I used to go to a garage like that, best thing you can do is find somewhere else.

So you left the key in or you left the car in?

Go take your bloody keys back first thing in the morning.. Enough of that crap. You don't need permission to take it you own it.

I had the same thing recently, 10 days to do a relatively straightforward job as they were always flat to the boards, up the walls etc etc. I had no option but to wait as the car was dead and had to be towed in.

I eventually rang and let rip over the phone and they finally did it, pointing out that my money was the same as those apparently skipping ahead of me. It's very frustrating as it was a major inconvenience to be without the car. Won't be using that particular garage again.

Cheers lads, will go in tomorrow and ask for the key back if the car isn't ready.
So you left the key in or you left the car in?

The car is on a street. As I said, it wouldn't start. The garage is 50 metres down the street, so I popped in to see if he could have a look at it. He said "no problem, pop back Tuesday evening" (this was a Saturday). So I gave him the key and have been calling back every other day since then, and its always the same: "I misdiagnosed", "waiting on a part", " didn't get around to it today ". Etc...
