Just a quick update to say that I'm just about back running again. I still have a cold but I think that it's a new one and in any case it's only a mild head cold so I've started logging a few miles again. Unsurprisingly my fitness has disappeared but I expect it to come back relatively quickly. I'll be easing back into it for the rest of the month with a view to picking it up again in January.

16 miles last week including my first ever parkrun where I accompanied my 9 year old son on his first ever parkrun. We just about got under 30 mins which he was very happy with.

It seems that I've offered to organise a marathon route in Dublin on the 14th of May next and I'm in need of some help and ideas.

    A little background

I've got a friend - Peter Thompson - whom I coached for a while who has decided to do some fundraising for two mental health charities. The challenge he has set himself is to run a marathon in every country in Europe on consecutive days so 44 marathons in 44 days in 44 countries. He's planning for the last marathon to be in Dublin on the 14th of May and I've somewhat recklessly offered to organise it for him.

I may start a thread on the main message board later but I thought that I'd throw the idea out here first and see what we can come up with. At this stage we can pretty much do anything that we want as far as Peter is concerned.

I'm thinking that it would be nice to finish up somewhere a little bit iconic but I'm also aware that we don't want to pick a route which requires loads of stops at traffic lights.

Also, is anybody interested in running part or all of it with him? He's not looking at running particularly fast - he has a vague idea of around 4hrs (his PB is 2:25) although I imagine that will be subject to change depending on how the challenge is going.

There's a website for the challenge here if you're interested in finding out more.

This gives a little more information about how he's approaching the challenge.

Phoenix Park has to be your best bet?
You could even run most of it in there, and then finish at the GPO or something

Fair play to him, what a great challenge. Ray's suggestion is good especially logistically. He could start off at Government buildings or something like that, run up to the PP, do the majority of the run there and then back to the GPO or somewhere equally iconic. Best of luck to him.

How does he feel about hills? Not much I'd say if I suggested the Hill of Howth like EOI do regularly?

Possibly too much on a good day but especially after 43 others.

Phoenix park is a great idea. That's definitely got to be included.

GPO could be an option - is it a bit of a mess though with Luas works etc. at the moment? The Dail would definitely be an option too.

Hills have never bothered him but I'm planning on going with him so I may steer clear of the hills on my own account :P
