Hi everyone my aunt wants to buy a car with some height. She's narrowed the choice down to the bmw and the outlander both 2016 models. I've told her the bmw is being replaced fairly soon but she doesn't mind. The two she's looking at have a price difference of €6000. Which one do you think she should go for? Thanks.

The Outlander feels very cheap on the inside and dated imo.

Does she need alot of space because the new BMW X1 might be worth a look at?

6 grand between 2 different x3 cars or 6 grand between the x3 and the outlander? I would have thought there was a bigger difference between bmw and Mitsubishi than that. Mitsubishi has 7 or 8 year warranty, that's fantastic if everything's covered. X3 wont give you anything like that peace of mind but is much nicer, the new ones anyway (the older one from mid 2000s was a heap of ****e) more expensive even though they are both a SUV they are not really competition for each other.

she has two children so her car will be mainly used for the school run. Her husband has his own car so it's mainly herself that will be driving whatever she buys. She's looked at the X1 but prefers the X3. The 6 grand is between the X3 and the Outlander. I know the Outlander has an 8 year warranty but I think it only lasts for either the 8 years or a certain amount of miles. She does about 18,000 miles a year so that probably really means a 5 year warranty. I know it's more than you get with the X3 though.

I just think there are better alternatives out there than those 2.

What sort of budget are we talking about?

Well the maximum she wants to spend is €50,000. Shes €20,000 saved and will be buying the car on pcp. I don't know what the BMW rates or Mitsubishi rates for pcp are though.

That price differential must be between a top of the range outlander and a bottom of the range x3. The Mitsubishi price range is 31-48k on carzone the bmw is 51-62k

But the outlander is very nasty looking on the inside looks cheap.

How about a Hyundai Sante Fe or a Kia Sorento. She should be able to afford either of those. They are both nice looking. Or she she wants to hold out a little the new Ford Edge will be out in the next few months and looks nice.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

BMW's PCP rate is 3.9%, no idea what Mitsubishi's is but I'd doubt it's very competitive compared to others.

What about the Honda CR-V? 50k would get you a top spec model with change left over.

3.9 rate only on 2,3,5 series I think
Much higher on the other ranges esp. The x models

The x3 is being replaced with a new model in 2017 the same as the 5 series, that is going to hurt her trade in on pcp in a few years, my mrs has the older x3 and I don't see much of a difference in the 2016 one, granted it nicer but it still looks more or less the same as it did 10 years ago, another poster said it as well have a look at the x1 or if space is a things the 2 series, there both a good lot cheaper than the x3 which is now past it's sell buy date, I would not buy one this year as the new one will be officially announced in the next few months and probably on sale december/january.
Expect a sale on the x3's in the next few months and great pcp and accessories upgrade offers as dealers try to off load stock, new x3 http://www.bmwblog.com/2016/01/04/2017-bmw-g01-x3-gets-another-render/

Yeah she's researched most SUVs and the X3 and Outlander are the two she likes most. I had a crv myself for 6 years and thought it was fantastic but mine was a 04 model and she doesn't like the new model. She's hoping to buy in Feb so if anyone has any stories about either car I'd be interested. Thanks.

    I've owned both types of X3, the E83 2.0 Diesel (2006 version) and the X3 F25 2.0 Diesel (2011 version).

The two versions of the X3 are worlds apart. The E83 has all handling characteristics of an agricultural vehicle, absolutely bloody awful! Whereas the F25 has much more refined qualities, the road holding is superb, the interior is very well finished.
I have my F25 for almost 12 months and I'm extremely pleased with my choice. My only reservation is the lack of a spare tyre, I'm not a big fan of the compressor and goo option. But it won't stop me from getting another one in the future.

BMW learned from their mistakes and rectified them between the two models.

Thanks a lot for that. I think out of the two she actually prefers the X3 but the outlander is €6,000 cheaper and isn't being replaced for another couple of years I think. It's probably wherever she gets the better deal that will be the decider.
