Dental expenses and Tax credits query

I have two questions if anyone can help.

    1) Can I claim tax back on dental implants? I looked up the revenue website and it's not clear if implants are included. The OH had and accident and we are paying 10k in treatment - some I know won't be covered like extractions, but I'm hoping some will. We got a pitiful amount from private health insurance.
Do I need to wait until the end of the year to apply for tax back on 2016 expenses?

    2) I am not working (or claiming welfare if that's relevant) but will get a job maybe March or April. We are taxed jointly. Will my credits automatically be used for the husband or should I do something now, or end of the year?

    Thanks

Details as to what you can claim for are on the MED 2

Health Expenses are granted by way of review at the end of the year, so you'll have to wait until after 31/12/2016 to claim.

Can you elaborate on that? What do I do exactly? Can I log it now in PAYE anytime or do I have to wait? Paid €500 for a root canal last night and want to see what I can get back, where do I start or should I leave it until 2017?
