I have a 01 diesel passat. Tonight while coming home I met a car at a bad band and whilst slowing down, braking and clutching, the engine cut out. Let out the clutch again and it continued to run. Drove the final mile home and when I clutched at the house, engine stopped and will not restart. Checked all fuses at the end of the dash and they are good. Any ideas?

EDIT. All dash lights look good, it's as if it isn't getting diesel. ( there is diesel in the tank)!

Can you hear the lift pump in tank working?

I can hear a "click" from the back when I switch on, that's all.

This morning you can hear the pump running in the tank. Car started and ran ok. Left it running for twenty minutes, then when switched off wouldnt restart. So looks like a component that fails when warm?
    Crank sensor?
I suppose the best bat is get the codes read and see.
