well at least he's up front about it being an ex private hire car and it hasn't been clocked. It's a bit naughty selling it in Ireland on UK plates though. That's not allowed.

Personally, i'm not convinced. you are taking all the risk.

there are a lot of compromises... you pay €2k for the car, €500 VRT(?), €200 on spare parts, €75 on an NCT and €300 on a years tax. so more like €3k on the road. then you still have a 200,000 mile, fair tired poverty spec MK1 Octavia. if you paid around €1k for that Octavia (like the trader did) then it'd be worth your while, you could do this yourself and cut out the middle man.

if you shop wisely and really want a diesel Octavia, i reckon you could do much better.

seeing as you're not afraid of high mileage, here's a 2008 MK2, with a new NCT and similar miles for not much more

or if you are willing to let the cheap tax go and go 2007, you could easily pick up a tested, decent Elegance spec for under €3k. these have almost half the mileage of the MK1 and the only compromise is €300 or so extra a year in tax.

Ex Private hire would mean it was a taxi/hackney in the UK, all seats are probably worn to bits, that said if you just wanted a run about and the cheap tax it might be fine for that. Pity there's no interior shots to see the condition of the dashboard and seats, there could have been a radio or meter in and half the dash canibalised to remove them.
