Using tiles for fire hearth?

    Hi everyone.

We are going to buy an insert stove but are saving and won't be any time very soon. Because we were putting down new laminate in the room, we ripped out the old horrible hearth. We have bought porcelain tiles and are going to lay out own hearth and try to keep it flush with the floor level. Will just run tiles all the way into the fire opening even though stove will eventually sit in there.

I'm just wondering firstly if anyone has any experience of using tiles for a hearth. They are fairly standard black porcelain from a builders suppliers. They said they would be grand but told us flexible adhesive?

Secondly, is it madness to tile right the way in? Will this create an issue for insert stove? (Apart from possibly reducing the available space?)

I just really want to avoid a step in the floor as with normal hearths.

Also, am considering one of the Boru inserts. Anyone any experience with them?

    Thanks

when you have decided on the stove your going to buy,you should be able to check the manual to see what dimensions the stove is.It would be better to tile in the whole way,You will know better when you have the dimensions for the stove. Also you will need an expansion gap between laminate floor and tiles
