    How often are these changed have a 12 avensis bought with about 70k on it have 100k now.

    Are you talking about diesel fuel filter or diesel particle filter? I'll assume DPF.
    There is no DPF replacing interval, you replace it if it gets full. If you drive a diesel like you're "supposed to" then the car will regen the filter and it may not need replacing at all.

    Regardless of the recommended service interval, for the price of the filter you could save yourself a lot of money and time by replacing the filter. You have already gotten 30K from it, who know when it may have been replaced last (if ever) before you purchased the car.
