Preauthorised or Charged?

    Hi.

    I booked a hotel online and cancelled it a few days later. The hotel does not charge a cancellation fee. Also, the hotel said it didn't charge my card for the stay but only preauthorised it. However I can see online that the hotel appears in the debit column of my account and the balance reduced accordingly.

    The Details column of the transaction has a date of 26JAN but the Date column says today's date.

    What is happening here? Has the hotel only preauthorised the card or actually charged it. If the former, when will the preauthorisation disappear and my balance increased again?

    A pre-authorisation charge back would generally take up to five working days for the amount to fall back into your account. If this doesn't adjust back to your account, please contact the hotel to request a refund for this transaction.
