    Folks,
Just wondering if anyone knows what i can do to fix failed emissions on a 96 toyota starlet.

    Results are as follows

Low idle 690 rpm CO 3.54%vol
    HC 563 ppm

    High Idle 2670 rpm

    Lambda .91
    CO 3.87 vol %
    HC 351 ppm

    the car is running rich.

I have attempted to clean the MAF sensor, but cannot get into it due to rounded screws. otherwise, i have replace the oxygen sensor, the map sensor, and a sensor in the airbox (donor car) however maf on donor car is different, i havent tried this. my question so really is, what causes low lambda, high co and high HC??

i would be reluctant to do that. its probably outside that range on the emissions.

Do you have the emissions results from the NCT? Post them up here, it will give a better idea of what is wrong.

    Rpm 3650

    Co 9.40 vol%

    HCC 455

    Lambda 0.76

Both low and high idle are the same rpm as the lad testing said it wasn’t changing the results were fairly the same. Please help I am clueless with emissions and need the car out

Your car is running extremely rich. The exhaust must surely stink of petrol from all the excess fuel?

Fix that and the other readings should come into line, but the longer you leave it the more you will risk needing to replace the catalytic converter and various sensors as they will get fouled up from the constant rich running.

Does your car have any modifications? I'm guessing the car is a Glanza Turbo by your username!

Is the car running higher boost than standard? Does it have an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator? Have you checked that the car in fact has a catalytic converter in place?

Running higher boost will lead to the car running leaner more often than not, but if there is any problem with any modifications on the car then it could inadvertently lead to the car running rich.
