Threading new shifter cable through shifter

This is wrecking my head. I'm replacing all 4 cables on my bike. Brakes done no hassle but I can't thread the cable through the front mech shifter. It goes in about half an inch but no more. I've damaged the end of the cable a few times now trying. It's a Sram Red 2014 shifter. I've never had this with Sram Force. Any tips or comments most welcome

I've only used Shimano so I'm not aware of how the Sram set up works but I would suggest threading the old cable a few times rather than damaging the new one. Once you figure it out with the old cable then give the new one a go.

A decent cable cutter than cuts the cable cleanly is essential to avoid snagging.

Look on youtube for GCNs how to change your gear cables.

Life is too short. No need to wreck your head. There are people available on this earth who can save your sanity and will do these sort of things for you for a reasonable fee by comparison.
