New VW Golf - What cash discount to expect

I am looking at buying a new vw golf on PCP (no trade in). I am thinking of a 1.2 petrol highline. The list price is about 27.5k can anyone advise me as to what discount I can expect or should ask for. I have been told starting discount is approx 1k to 1.25k but will get more at face to face discussions.

I know that I am not experienced enough to get the best deal ever but I would like to know when someone is really trying to take me for a ride.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    C

Think up to 1750 is doable on a Highline

Isn't the Golf due a mid life facelift before the summer? You might drive a better deal on existing stock closer to the launch date. 1750 is still a fair decent discount however.

I bought a new Golf Highline 1.2 tsi petrol 5 door in October for €25500. That was on PCP with no trade in.

Thanks for the posts, that give me something to think about. In relation to the price 25.5 do you mind me asking if that was standard or did it include metallic paint or anything like that

It was the standard Red colour, it wasn't metallic but it did include the free Technology pack.

Let us know how you get on. Could be looking for something similar soon enough.

Imo 1.4TSI HL model is way better car to drive and much more powerful then 1.2 or 1.6TDI. I see the price now is 28500 +750 delivery and for cash price they must give you 5-7 % discount which is aprox 27700. Take time and choose wisely :)

Went into my local VW. Looking to buy a highland 150hp golf. The best he could do was a 1500 discount and a 500 for my 03 golf.

500 quid? Rubbish! Try elsewhere. I know a guy who got 4 grand for a 03 Golf against a new Octavia on PCP. Obviously the 4 grand was coming out of the Skoda in part but shop around.

Try and sell the 03 Golf yourself privately. It's worth nothing to a main dealer as it's too old for them to resell.

In fairness the golf isn't in the best of shape. I think Ill shop around a bit more alright.

Went to a different dealer and he offered me 500 for my gold and a 2000 discount. Ive gone back to the first dealer, lets see what they come back with now

The highline 150 is exactly the sweet spot of the range in my opinion. I'd personally put the R line kit on it too if they are still doing them cheap.

Hi, any info on this "mid-life facelift" - thinking of buying a new VW Golf Highline in June/July. Cant decided over the 1.2 TSI or the 1.6 Diesel. I dont drive that much, but want some power also. Anyone any thoughts on the 1.2 petrol?

    Thanks

Get the 1.4 as has been discussed above. 1.2 i've test drove and it's pretty gutless.

I have the 1.2 tsi 110bhp and I think it's great. I mainly do town driving with the odd motorway trip thrown in and it's nippy enough. You're not going to win any races in it but if you mainly do town/city driving it's fine.

Towards the end of the summer from what I have heard.

Why not consider the 1.4 TSi?

The facelift could be shown next month apparently at the Geneva motor show.
It was expected later in the year but may be brought forward.
New led lights, new interior trim and more tech including digital instrument display and other bits supposedly.

I'd say the facelift will not be as extensive though as what they did with the MkVI. More a refresh than a reskin as the MkVIII is due at the end of next year.

On the lower models I'd imagine it will be minimal enough. It won't be a MK5-6 sort of scenario from what I've red. LED headlights and digital display seem to be the main upgrades.

Will the majority even get the digital binnacle display given that it's still an expensive option on the higher priced Passat?

1.4 TSi is almost €2.5k more expensive, nearly the same price as the 1.6 diesel. I'm not into cars that much, just looking for something that looks nice and has decent power, at good price.

But your willing to spend the extra money on the diesel? Granted the 1.6 diesel will probably have a better resale value but if you don't really have the use of a diesel then sure the higher powered 1.2 or the 1.4 petrol make more sense.

Rumour is it will be an option.
