claiming back VAT

    My employer is giving me a bonus of E1000 cash or buy goods to the value of E1200 and they will claim back the tax on that. Seemingly not all shops or business will allow you to claim back the tax, according to my HR dept, they claim large chain stores won't. Surely its not their loss if a company claims back the vat, isn't that the governments loss! Why? I might but golf related stuff.

    Generally businesses can't reclaim VAT on staff entertainment expenditure.
