Cold Feet returns

Friends is coming back - as is its British equivalent.

And in both cases, five of the six main cast members will be present.

    Coincidence or what? :D

But Friends is only coming back for a one-off special, and Matthew Perry isn't taking part because of West End commitments. Cold Feet, on the other hand, is coming back for a full eight-part series, and Helen Baxendale isn't taking part because, of course, her character Rachel died in a road accident in the penultimate episode of the original run.

As the show's creator Mike Bullen has said, it feels like a good time to revisit the surviving characters, as they learn that middle age is no less challenging than the 30s.

The folks at ITV add: "How has Adam (James Nesbitt) coped without his soulmate, raising their son on his own? Do Pete (John Thomson) and Jenny (Fay Ripley) still spend their evenings on the sofa, except now they watch Endeavour instead of Morse? And what of David (Robert Bathurst) and Karen (Hermione Norris)? They’d split up, but with three children between them, are the ties that bind still strong?"

Not all returns are successful, of course - but I can't see why this one won't be, TBH. It would be wrong not to retain "Female of the Species" as the theme tune, though... :o;)

I'd nearly forgotten about this until I saw it mentioned in another thread..... anyone any idea of when it's due to start?

It's already started filming and according to creator Mike Bullen, it should be ready to air by 'late spring', so not too much longer to wait now.

Cold Feet is one of my favourite ever TV shows (I only revisited the series again recently via box set) and I can't wait to see how the characters have evolved since 2003. I hope I won't be disappointed!

Harvey, I love "Female of the Species" too, however they only used that song during the first season, so I doubt it'll be back - we can but hope though ;)

I'm always wary of show returns tbh. I was a big fan of This Life and I remember a similar buzz being made around ten years ago when they brought that show back for a reunion special. I wished they hadn't bothered; I remember hating it.

I think it's often a doomed enterprise. You can't have characters acting the way they once did because people change and life goes on and so you have to change the show to accommodate for this. The problem then is many viewers get disappointed because they don't recognize the changes and the new approach and so you hear the familiar refrain of 'ah, it's just not the same'.

It would have been better imo to bring the characters back but call it something else.

I LOVED This Life!! Have the box set of that too (must get round to watching that soon....)

I had no idea they filmed a reunion show! Did Warren come back from Australia?

    I'm intrigued now.... :o

Back tonight at 9pm ITV1. Really excited for it. Rewatched the whole series last month in one weekend. I wasn't even sceptical about it coming back because all involved said for 10+ years that they wouldn't do more unless it was really good. Promotion machine has been in overdrive for it so ITV are on to a winner. Even seen trailers on non-ITV channels.

    Regarding cast...
All the remaining 5 back, Kimberley Joseph as well (i think) but havent heard or seen anything of Jacey Salles who played Ramona.

I really enjoyed that. The old cast just seemed to mesh perfectly together again.

Robin seems like a right witch - don't remember her being that awful before. Will David and Karen reunite I wonder?

Really looking forward to next week now, but seeing the characters' kids all so grown up makes me feel slightly ancient :o

We can't watch this on Virgin Media right? i.e. we cannot get ITV or can we?

I didn't even remember the characters having had kids

Think I may have to go back and watch the last series to refresh the failing memory!!

It's on UTV Ireland (channel 110) at the same time as ITV.

That said, I'm not sure it was ever the British equivalent of Friends, despite the fact that Helen Baxendale was in both. They're not even the same genre of show (ones a half hour sitcom, the other's a one hour comedy drama). Steven Moffat's excellent but now rarely seen Coupling was really the nearest thing to a British Friends.

Fair point. Plus, Friends didn't have "The One Where One Of The Main Characters Is Killed". ;)

Like most others, I like what I've seen so far. Adam enjoying life in Singapore and falling for a lady almost young enough to be his daughter - while still having trouble getting over Rachel's death and not knowing about their son's own troubles - is certainly a plausible storyline. :)

And Pete's as hilarious as ever. :D

Really enjoyed it. Brilliant. Laugh out loud funny in places and well written. Packed a lot more than i was anticipating into the first episode. I like how Pete's depression is being treated as a bad patch by Adam & David, as a lot of people would see it in real life rather than noticing it as depression. Was surprised that David was still with Robyn but good to see he's finally realised she's a miserable sod.

Hope if this series is well recieved there will be the possibilty of another. It already looks like it's going to be great. Brilliant to have it back.
