Postmen delivering junk mail

I was waiting on an important letter. I heard the letterbox open, and some items fall. I ran out in anticipation. What arrived in was three unaddressed flyers advertising stuff. This was delivered by the official An Post postman, so it is definitely An Post that is doing this. Anyone else notice this ? Will the No Junk Mail sign stop them ?

A "No Junk mail" or "Addressed Post only" sign should stop a postman, but the plebs(non An Post employees) who deliver most of that ****e, some of them can't read, so good luck.

Sinn Fein think that their election flyers aren't junk mail for some reason.

No political parties think their stuff is junk obviously. A few mildly irritated people is worth the risk to get out their vote (in their minds).

OP, the only thing that will stop a bad postman with junkmail is a good postman with junkmail.

I understand getting junk mail if I have other mail but when the postman stops and delivers just junk mail then I dont get it unless he is getting paid to deliver a certain amount of flyers.

An Post run a direct mailing service whereby companies pay them to deliver leaflets.

    Shocking, I know.

We accidentally signed up to this advertising company of some sort (well someone in the house did) we have had this company delivering us three letters a day for goddamn 3 years, nearly 4. Drives me insane.

An Post is a business, they sell their services which is delivering legitimate post, and rubbish, companies buy the service, the poor old postman has to deliver it, and we have to dispose of it. I'd like a sign for the door which says 'no unsolicited material' instead of 'no junk mail'.

    Edit: Just saw this.. http://www.thejournal.ie/readme/the-secret-candidate-no-junk-mail-1375093-Mar2014/

why did the postman cross the road?

Junk mail doesn't really bother me. Our local take away often sends out good vouchers in the post. So if we did have a no junk mail sign we wouldn't get these. Also find it handy for finding out about offers.
The rest just goes into the fire or into the recycling bin.

Only if addressed to you. Everything else is classed as Junk - even by An Post.

The ability to read is quite important to me, if they can't respect your wishes why would you give them a vote. That's my response.

I had a SF guy last time round. He called to the door and I said I didn't want his literature. As he was leaving he went to put the blurb in the letter box at the gate. I told him not to but he put it in any way. Ignoramus!

I can't say junknmail.bothers me too.much it just goes.into the recycling bin. I wonder though is it better to put "addressed mail only' rather than no junk mail. Junk mail can be subjective.

My mother got a letter from this crowd http://www.dataireland.ie saying that if she signed a letter and returned it to them, she would be taken off their mailing list. I presumed that might have been a legal requirement. She thinks she got on the list originally after buying something in some shop, rather than online.

Have you any links to verify this? I heard it said in another thread.

As said an post will deliver unaddressed mail from the likes of pizza companies. But I know they are supposed to adhere to "no junkmail" signs, Junkmail is the colloqiual term for unaddressed or unsolicited mail, I have searched online and could not find any definition that said otherwise.

So if a political party wanted unaddressed mail delivered just like pizza companies I would have expected an post to treat it the exact same.

Parties are allowed free postage of addressed flyers which I would most certainly expect the postman to be delivered. Just like if a pizza company got your address and sent it through official post I would expect to get it.

But you appear to be saying they will treat this differently.

It appears to be only subjective to politicians and canvassers. I have heard nobody else being confused about it, have never seen a definition that would say otherwise (unless coming from a policitian).

One pathetic excuse I have heard is that canvassers have had people run down the road after them saying "you ignored my house!, where is my flyer" and the canvasser says "you have a no junkmail sign so I posted none" and this imaginary householder said "your leaflets are most certainly not junk, I want them". I have seen this tall tale used on several occassions. The canvassers then say the onus is on you to put up an additional sign saying "no political leaflets" or "no unaddressed mail". The dogs on the street know "junkmail" means the same as "unaddressed mail", therefore the onus should be on the alleged complaining householders to put up "election flyers welcome" signs above their "no junkmail" signs.

These lying cunt intrusive canvassers make out like its a "can't win" situation. I would rather face the wrath of someone upset they did not get a leaflet than someone pissed off with me disobeying a no junkmail sign. Also they have every right to ignore a house anyway, I have seen gangs of these scumbags on my road and I got no leaflet even though I have no sign up about junkmail.

The imaginary compainers are already going to get their addressed political leaflet, postage paid for by the taxpayer. Why do the parties think they need more than 1?

I still am trying to find out the legalities of what you can put through peoples doors. Can I attach an election flyer to a black sack of rubbish and push the start of the bag through a politicians letterbox? I come home to waste material half hanging out my letterbox so I wonder if legally there is any difference. Like is there a weight limit? as I said my black sack would have voting information on it.
