    Hi All,

I found an old Seiko Kinetic watch in a drawer, I haven't worn it in YEARS (at least 6), it started to work straight away and it still is, the only issue I've noticed is that the second hand is skipping a second, then 2 seconds at the same time. I've been wearing it for a few days now so it should be fully charged, any ideas of what could be up?

Capacitor on the blink? IIRC that can happen with some models. That might give you the "low charge" skipping hand thing.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I don't know if anything on it works, it'd been in a drawer for years, I was surprised it worked to be honest.

    This is the watch

so. the second hand gets all jumpy when its on min charge. the newer ones go into power save mode after a period of time, and can last surprising periods without being worn.

if you just swing the watch for 10 minutes while watching tv or something, then you should get it to 10-20 seconds sweep of charge, and that is good.

if it fails to charge, then you need to replace the capacitor, which is fairly straightforward, and you get the kits off ebay for around 20 euro

Is there a reserve power indicator button at 2 o'clock? I have a kinetic but mine isn't a chrono.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

It seems to be a 7L22 movement
    https://www.seikowatches.com/support/ib/pdf/SEIKO_7L22.pdf

HOW TO CHARGE AND START THE WATCH

Swing the watch from side to side approximately 500 times.
    * Swing rhythmically at a rate of twice a second.
    * 500 swings will start the watch and the second hand will move at one-second intervals.
Swing the watch approximately 200 times further to reserve one day of power.
Set the time/calendar and put on the watch.

Think that's an Arctura, my favourite everyday watch.

Yeah it is an Arctura, it's a grand watch, I've worn it a bit over the last couple of weeks, mainly to get the second hand thing sorted. I got a watch box at Christmas and it's a great way of wearing old watches, I forgot about a few of the watches I had but now they are in rotation.

The swinging thing worked, second hand working as expected now

I had an arctura too, can take a lot of effort to get it charged once fully run down; takes a lot to have it fully run down too though. Good watch.
