    Hi all.
As the title says my firebird s 50 90 won't stay running.
I just put a new pump, photostick, coil and jet into it.
Is is getting fuel and fires up because I can see the flame
But after about 10 seconds and cuts out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Atb mike.

If all those new parts didn't sort it, it may be the control box, but no way of knowing without being there. It may also be bad pump adjustment or air adjustment. Did you have a way of setting it up after replacing the pump? You are after going to a lot of expense already by guessing at what the problem may have been. It would still be a good idea to call a service person. Make sure that they can supply you with a printout of the combustion results before booking.

    Thanks wearb.
I didn't do anything with the pump adjustment or the air adjustment.
I know of the small screw on the pump it's self to adjust the fuel.
Would you be able to tell me how I would be able to set these correctly please.
    Thanks mike.

You need a pressure gauge to set the pump and a flue gas analyser for the combustion. It is worthwhile having it done properly. It saves oil (money) and prolongs the life of the boiler.

    hi jimf.
It's got a fuel flow going to it. Checked all that out earlier.
Going to pick up a huge later and see what the pump is reading.
    It should be at 7lb.

sorry mike I should have made my post clearer fuel issue I meant any water contamination

if you can draw off a sample in a clear bottle and check to see if there is any water settled on the bottom

pump pressure of around 8bar is more in line of the reading you are after

but without a flugas analyser you are only guessing

What nozzle did you put into it? As said earlier, pump pressure and flue gas analysis are critical.

It was new oil that I put in today. The container and the small oil tank are spotless clean. Never had an issue with water in the oil. But I will check it out in the morning.
Spoke to my brother in law he is a meachinal engineer and he said that he has all the tools for the job and that he would sort it out for me.
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi DTP 1979.
I can't remember the type of nozzle but I kept the container that it came in.
I was told at the plumbing shop that it was the one I needed.
Hopefully my brother in law can sort it out for me.
He has experience in working on them.

Id take what the plumbing shop say with a pinch of salt tbh. The other day my local plumbing shop told a guy he needed a grant 90/120 vortex to heat 8 single panel rads.
If you're going to the effort of doing it right then google the manual or better still ring firebird and ask for the correct nozzle. Clean out the combustion chamber and baffles while your at it. My only worry would be your lack of knowledge of the analyser and combustion setting readings. But hopefully we can help here.

    Thanks DTP 1979.
I downloaded firebird manual with all the info on it about this type of buner.
Im nearly sure that it is the right nozzle that I got. I will have to check to be sure. It also gave all the info that is needed for the pressure settings. By checking this the air damper settings are correct. I will have to reset the oil pressure on the pump.
    Hopefully all will go well.
Thank you for your help and advice.

the thing with oil boilers mike is you could have 3 boilers exactly the same and the settings could be different on all of them based on site locations etc

overairing on a boiler can cause very high co readings as can other factors as well so back to the original advice re flugas analysis is a must

    Hi jimf.
Going on what I have been told on here by everyone I think I will get a technician in to do a full service on it. It will be a lot safer in the end. Especially where fumes and co2 is involved.
Thanks to everyone for taking their time to help.
    It is much appreciated.

well I didn't get the burner up and running yet.
I have changed the oil pump, photo cell, coil, jet, control box checked the oil pressure, compassiter, checked the flue so its not blocked and the burner has been cleaned out.
So before I change the motor could anyone think of anything I may have missed.

What exactly is it doing now, from the time you turn it on?
Any sound. Does it fire up for a while.

I will indeed. I'm gone this far with it I might as well keep going.
Was talking to a firebird technician and told him what I had done so far.
He said that I basically had a new buner and that the only other thing that would
    Be wrong is the motor.
No harm in checking it out I suppose.

Glad to hear it. Not a good night to have it off, brr.

Get it properly adjusted now and it should give years of good service.

Just a little note about the riello hose.Firebird say it should be changed every 2 years. If its a few years old you should think about changing it.There is a date stamped on them.
