Depression and prescription pills

I've suffered with depression and anxiety most of my life. I've tried in the past to address the issue with counselling therapy and medication but to no avail. Lately I've decided to give it one more shot and I'm back currently on antidepressants and awaiting therapy but I find myself at my lowest point. It's still early days on the meds so I'm thinking it might be partially to this. I Seem to be remeding my issue with alcohol also. Which is totally new to me. Never drank much before but since the christmas period I've drank every night. I'm also taking codeine painkillers and Tramadol (both are someone else's prescription drugs but they are willingly given to me to address backache issues I have ) but i find myself taken the tablets everyday regardless of back problems or not. I am pretty much high every evening. I've never ever addressed my depression in this form before. And I'm wondering if this is a dangerous path to follow and if so what is my alternatives? I've never found antidepressants successful in the past? I'm looking for some sort of lift in my life it's always so sorrowful.

It's never a good idea to take someone else's prescription medication. On top of the drinking, you are heading down a risky path. You are not giving your antidepressants a real chance to work for you.
Speak to your GP and tell them the pattern you have fallen into. They are there to help. Maybe they can get you into therapy sooner.

Keep trying. Give yourself a proper chance.

    Hi Niavee,

I don't want to give you any medical advice but please speak to your GP about this. There are so many types of antidepressants out there and it may take a while to find one that suits you. I'm currently on my fourth one in the last few months and still struggling but my counselling helps.

In the mean time, you could try posting in the anxiety/depression megathread under health>long term illness, its a great network for support.

I'm locking this OP, sorry. the only answer that wont get people banned in response to your post is to go see your GP, and follow their recommendations on responsible medication intake. And only ever take prescription medicines that are specifically prescribed for you and you alone, under the guidance of a medical professional who has examined you and where they have discussed with you all the risks with mixing medications and alcohol.
