What’s acceptable mileage on a brand new car? I’m looking at one with 305km on it – is this acceptable?

Should I be looking for a discount based on this mileage?? Thanks.

I don't know what the norm is but there was 12 miles on the wife's car when it was delivered

I would be comfortable with less than 50, but no more than 100. I can't say I would kick up a massive fuss though if the mileage was explained to me. Otherwise I would wonder if someone had borrowed my new car over a long weekend before I took delivery.

    ferris......:D

Either someone in the dealership took it for a few days/weekend or they have let a fair number of customers have run around in it. IN either case, I would not worry longterm but i'd be annoyed. Alternatively, was it driven from the port rather than wait for a transporter. It's certainly not usual delivery mileage.

If it was brought for a few demos I wouldn't be too worried as the salesperson would have been in the car each time though all dealers have demo models specifically for that purpose. Either one of the dealer employees took it home for the weekend or it was loaned to a motoring journalist for a few days. Either way I'd ask for a small discount - it's more than the so-called 'delivery mileage' you expect to see on the clock.

I wouldn't accept it, no way should there be that much on the clock. For me it would take from the buying a brand new car experience. Personally I wouldn't ask for a discount, I'd ask for another car.

Ive never seen a brand new car with more than 20 miles on the clock to be honest with you op, charging full whack is unacceptable.

If it's a car you have ordered and paid for then I wouldn't accept it and request a car with zero or near zero mileage or a discount.

If it's a car in a dealership that's been advertised as new and they're asking the full price then I'd ask for a discount or a car with zero or delivery mileage otherwise I'd take my money elsewhere.

It's obviously been used for test drives or something similar. I would try and get something off it if I was buying it. The two I've bought new had 7km and 14km on them. Both weren't stock cars though.

BMW's had (or may still have) a setting on them that they can be zero'd within the first 250km to remove delivery miles. I doubt they're the only manufacturer doing it. Up to 250k id probably be ok with. When I bought my d-max in 2010 it was driven from the distributer to monasterevin , then back to nolan auto care to have leather fitted, then back to the monasterevin, had 200 ish km on it when I picked it up but the dealer explained why and it made full sense.

and Merc used to have a way dealers could knock back the mileage to zero within the first 50miles....

when I bought my new van last July it came with 80 km . I was a bit annoyed but said nothing in the end.
they drove it from the distributors.

    22kms on mine

I'd be asking questions if anything over 25km. My car had 11 km if I remember right.

it comes down to how hard is it to get another one somewhere else too. it def use it as way to renegotiate the deal though.

120km on mine. Came with a serious discount so no complaints from me. Previous car had single digit mileage.
