    Hi,

a friend has been offered a Peugeot 508 for a good price but with the radio / nav unit not working and the check engine light on.

The code as read by my cheapo reader is u0055 which per google relates to Canbus D error.

The question is does anybody know the seriousness of these errors and whether they can be resolved reliably and cheaply?

I seem to remember ROW is a specialist on this and could perhaps comment on this potential BSI unit problem.

And are the two errors related?

    Thanks

    Richard

Not so sure about this fault code but going by the info i have attached it points towards the CAN network down or engine ecu fault.

Engine ECU CONTINENTAL SID 807 branch 2
    Fault code U0055
After sales description of the fault code Intersystems CAN : Malfunction of the Comfort CAN, no more lighting of the MIL warning lamp possible
Description of the diagnostics Faults in communication between ECUs on the CAN network
Conditions of activation of the diagnostics At least one of the following conditions must be fulfilled
    - Ignition switched on
    - Engine running
Conditions of disappearance of the fault Driving for 5 minutes
Down-grade modes if fault present -
Switching on of the warning lamp and/or warning message Warning lamp MIL
    Main customer complaints likely Jerking/stalling
    Starting problem
    Lack of power
    Suspect areas Engine ECU
    Intersystem CAN network

Maybe the seller was told this by the dealer and that's why its going cheap...A new ecu in the dealers would work out over a grand coded so there not cheap....then again it could be just a fuse that's blown and pulling down the CAN network.
