Learner driver sponsor

Is having a sponsor a requirement for someone on a learner's permit, or just a strong recommendation? Is it possible to take the driving test and get a full license without having nominated a sponsor?

If it is required, exactly what does the sponsor need to do to fulfill their requirements, assuming I won't be doing any practice sessions with them?

    It's a recommendation.

I never had a sponsor and passed my driving test last year.

The main thing is that you get your 12 EDT lessons and the instructor logs them with the RSA.

The testers won't want to see your book which includes details about the sponsor, practice records, etc.
