    Hi Guys,

Which route would you recommend to get from the RDS to N7 by car on a week day at 5 - 6 PM. Would N11 + M50 make more sense than a more direct route through the city?

You'll Have to get through the city and then face the quays going through the city. Would have thought the n11 / m50 option better. Come off the n11 at leopardstown road could be handier. Run the risk of a snarl up on the m50.

If you're heading south, you could also consider the n11 to New Ross then around n25 at Waterford (there's a toll) - you're going dungarvan way? Surprised you're not on the bike :pac:

Through the city from the RDS would be mental. Aim for Sandyford and the M50 and on to the N7.

That is a good option, but getting to South Kilkenny the N7 is probably easier. Will check it actually...

    Haha :D.

It is not not me that will be driving, but my OH. I find sitting two hours behind the wheel more tiring than spending the same time on the saddle. And more frustrating. I remember we travelled from RDS last year through the city (the way the GPS thing was telling us) and it was pure torture. I can't imagine doing this more often, so decided to abandon the ship this time :).

Before the M50, the traditional culchie-route from the N7 to the RDS (Horse Show, Spring Show, etc) was to take a right onto the Long Mile Road and then turn right along the canal at Dolphins Barn. Another right at Leeson Street and a left at Wellington Place/Clyde Road brought you out at the United States Embassy and the RDS was then mere moments away.
As children, this was probably the most exciting trip of the whole year. :D

Anyhow, these days the journey is much easier using the M50, but it's now considered to be a giant pain in the fundament and to be avoided as much as possible.
It's probably best to aim for J11 or J13 at that time of day. It still won't be easy.
Straight down the N11 to the M50 is the easiest/most direct route even though it's a bit longer, but traffic at that time of day will likely be mental.

I remember in them olden days heading towards Tallagh on the M50 and go to Ranelagh (lived there at the time) via the R137 Terenure, Rathgar and Rathmines.
