Touring Wheel on Road bike?

Considering getting one of the dynamo hub wheels off one of the German sites. The touring wheels are a fraction of the price of the road bike wheels. They're all advertised as 28" or 622 so it should fit my road bike right? It'll be for training on dark evenings anyway so I'm not worried about a weight penalty.

I'm wondering, the hub should fit in the forks fine as they're all 100mm yeah? But I think the rim will only take 28mm tyres minimum? I've run 25mm conti's no problem. Has anyone done this before? Any issues I should be aware of?

You may find that the rim is a couple of mm wider than your existing wheels. This will mean you need to adjust your brake caliper when you swap wheels but that should be it.

One thing I found when I hadn't tightened the QR skewer enough was that the axle rotated and wrapped the wires around itself. Solved that by tightening the skewer just a bit more.

Your biggest problem will be remembering to turn on your battery lights when you take the dynamo wheel off for the summer.

Haha I have that problem already! My current wheels are just the entry level shimano ones that came with the bike so there shouldn't be too much of a weight penalty hopefully.

I got a wheel from Rose Bikes for Christmas, I think it's really a great purchase / present no messing about with batteries. I leave the lights turned on the whole times a 80LUX b & m up front and a very bright one behind me, superb light distribution and focus . I've had a few people look at me when I walk off leaving the lights on
You'll not regret getting a hub Dynamo.
