Help diagnosing a roof leak (with photos)

Parents house has a slate roof. its 30 years old but pretty well maintained.

There was a leak in one of the bedrooms. Part of the ceiling was damaged and we can now see the leak (water coming through a few slates and in through the damaged felt).

Had a few builders look at it and they say replace all the slates (they're past their lifetime). Seems a bit much to me, given the rest of the roof is waterproof and the slates look in good shape.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

site very slow, u might take the pics down and reduce them in size as they wont open.

    Is the ceiling insulated?
Maybe use the opportunity to strip off slates and replace felt and at some time upgrade insulation at eaves
