IVCA cease sponsorship of Junior Tour & Rás na mBan

Gonna be extra hard this year for the race organisers of the above events to keep the show on the road after a late decision by the IVCA to cut their sponsorship funding to the two events .

Strange decision for the new board to make given the Conor McGregor amounts of cash money reserves the IVCA are sitting on - A couple of hundred grand by all accounts:cool: and the fact that membership fees have risen for this year.

Also very late timing of the decision. I guess they had committed to that funding and the race organisers had been depending on that commitment and counting on it to fund their events.

Be interested to know why the decision was made. You'd kinda think that the vets, more than any other group, would understand the concept of An chéad ghliúin eile. If you don't nurture the next generation, you might find yourself short on vets in the future. Are there many vets on boards with an opinion? Maybe we could pair them up with some junior riders who could show them how to use d'aul internet in return for reinstating their financial support for the junior tour :P

Anyway, I was between two minds myself lately on whether to join the vets or not and so far this is just another reason not to.

The ivca are prohibited from sponsoring activities outside of the IVCA by their M&A's. They are going to change their constitution to allow it and they will support these events this year but it will be a retrospective payment I guess they need to put it to their agm
