Servicing one year old car

My car, which I bought new (well, it was 6 months old but was a showroom model) this time last year, is due for its first service. Very low mileage, running well, but indictaor telling me oil needs to be changed soon and it's due a service after 12 moths in any event.

I have a garage my wife and I have been using for the last number of years and we find them very reliable, trustworthy and honest. If I get the car serviced there, will it in any way invalidate or jeopardise the warranty? This is not about saving money (I think the garage I have been using may be slightly cheaper than going back to the main dealer, but I haven't actually asked them both to quote costs), it's about wanting to use someone that I know and trust.

    What make is it?

The main dealer is likely to be more expensive than your current mechanic, but it might well help retain value in the car if, for example, its a Ford and you have a Ford service history/dealer stamp.

The only time I ever bought a 'new' car it was like you, a demo model a few months old. I got the st service done at the main dealer, and then you kinda of like to keep the same main dealer on the service book, meaning you keep going back to them!

In answer to your question, No. You warranty won't be invalid if you use an independent garage. For convenience get an itemised invoice showing the grade of oil used incase of warranty claims in the future.

The only thing you may miss out on is the likes of software updates or warranty recalls, and if you intend to sell the car after 3 or 4 years a main dealer history will help it sell. It will also help in the even of something going wrong outside of the warranty period - the manufacturer is more likely to offer goodwill with a full main dealer history.

Shouldn't invalidate warranty however provided your mechanic uses the correct parts and oil and provides an invoice.
