    Engine/Oil Temperature 85C

Low Idle CO 0.29% above 0.30% fail PASS
    (860 rpm) HC 107ppm above 0ppm fail N/A

High Idle Lambada: 1.00 not above 0.97 and 1.03 fail PASS
    (2,800 rpm) CO 0.36% above 0.20% fail FAIL/REFUSAL
HC 101ppm above 200ppm fail PASS

Oil and filter changed 7 days ago and Redex added to fuel for the last week, engine tested at operating temperature.

Can anyone offer suggestions how to get high idle emissions down to pass this?

    Thanks in advance

i had an high idle fail and it was the gasket holding the lambda sensor on the exaust manifold . 13 euro , replaced that and it flew past

i suspect you have a leak somewhere on your exaust

Unlikely with a lambda figure of 1.00

OP it looks very much like a catalytic converter issue. But the figures are only slightly on the high side so a good fuel system treatment and an Italian tune up might get it through on a retest.

+1 on the cat, but just get your exhaust system checked for any leaks. A leaky exhaust will cause an inflated CO level

    Thanks for the replys.

Could somewhere like First Stop check for exhaust leaks?

That's not an exhaust leak. How old are the plugs?

    6000ish miles.

There is 120,000 miles on the clock and its burning some oil

That's probably why. Service the engine and send it back in. I had a nissan primera of the same year.serviced it every 5000 miles and it always flew through on emissions. If you don't look after your car it won't look after you

I bought it last January, it had only been serviced. In may changed oil,oil filter, plugs, air filter and pollen filter. Got new discs and brake pads in November. I will change plugs and air filter tomorrow and try an Italian tune up on the way for retest on tuesday.

6000 miles or 8 months is nothing for plugs though and unless the op is driving on dusty roads the air filter won't be that dirty either.

Those nissan's have a mind of their own hence they are a nightmare to shift. George Dalton is the man to answer these more recent posts

Read back through the tgread you'll see his name. He is a self employed mechanic/car dealer. Knows his stuff.

Full service and dipetane added caused a lo idle fail on re-test.

It took a new cat to pass NCT

The better half's Almera failed exact same thing. Mechanic recommended a universal cat converter. What size would fit the Almera? Seen 2'' for 65E on ebay.

I got a second cat put on halfway down the exhaust.

this place here did it for me autoexhausts.goldenpages.ie/

    Highly recommend them

Belated update. got a garage to swap out the cat converter with a scrap yard cat & this worked. It was a gamble because you dont know until its in if its any better than the 1 that was removed. E70 for the cat & E80 for the labour.
