Is 1h 30m too short to change airline in Hong Kong

I'm looking to book a flight and I've two main options unless I go much more expensive. The flight I would prefer to take, has 1hour and 30 mins between the arrival time of the incoming flight and the departure time of the second flight from hong kong. During this time I will have to change airlines. Is that unreasonable? The other option also has a 1h 30m stop in Hong Kong but it is with the same airline rather than transferring between airlines in this time. I won't be bringing a checked in bag.

1hr30 is doable in HKG _provided_ that you already have your second boarding pass (so a through ticket). If you have to check in again, forget it.

I develop Superior Solitaire when I'm not procrastinating on boards.ie.

I assume I won't have a through ticket because it's two different airlines and neither the BA site or the Hong Kong airlines site offer the flight. Would an online check in do? Is there anywhere to check which terminal the flights arrive in and leaves from?

1 hr 40 in lhr is your first problem. While everything is doable a 30 minute delay on arriving in lhr, or having to wait for a stand and you are under pressure.

If you don't book a through ticket nobody will look after you.

That's the one thing that's actually changeable I can leave #dublin an hour earlier for the same price.

I can't find any tickets going all the way for less than €1200, this is €800 at the moment.

I was just using skyscanner, which redirects to one two trip

Given I imagine HK-Hanoi flights are cheap and frequent, have you tried asking sky scanner to just price Dublin to HK and then finding a HK -Hanoi flight the next morning or something? Airport hotel or something for the night?

Bit of a risk though, if your inbound flight to HK is delayed and you miss the next flight there is no comeback.

    Try kayak.com too.

Did you try Expedia? Afair when you buy om expedia it's all on one ticket so if one flight is delayed then you are protected and will be looked after by the airlines concerned.

Between now and then flight times could alter slightly. If both of them were to change by 10 / 15 mins in the wrong direction you could be caught out.
Even the departure from Dublin being delayed by 15 - 20 mins could mess up your plan.
If it is possible I would suggest departing Dublin earlier and arriving with no stress.

If I was going to Hanoi I'd book return flights to Bangkok and then book a separate return from there. For your dates you'll get to BKK for under €700 return and BKK-Hanoi return for €100-€150.

You could either spend a bit of time in the airport or spend a night in Bangkok. Just another option for you...

For a start pick flights operated by British Airways between Dublin and Heathrow (the flight number starts with an 8). That way you arrive into T5 and don't have to switch terminals.

    Agreed.
OP's original itinerary is not great, LHR connection way to tight, considering change of terminals etc..
As other suggested, via Bangkok would be better, or a BA ticket DUB - LHR - HKG something like below, (and the outbound is on A380!)
And then a separate ticket form Hong Kong Airlines?

I managed to get it for €744 in the end with much safer layover times, I got Dublin to Bangkok via London with BA and then Bangkok to Hanoi with Quatar. The way it worked out each layover is 3.5-4.5hrs so there's a good bit of a buffer at each stop. I had to take an extra day off to get it to work but it worked out alright in the end. Thanks for all of your help and suggestions.
