Watched the last quarter of SB49 again tonight. Just so magnificently intense.
Would be nice to have a comfortable 2TD win to enjoy tonight, but suspect that win or lose this team is destined to be always involved in ridiculous thrillers.

I pretty much just posted the same sentiments in The Superbowl thread. Ya, it certainly would be nice to win a title for once, without Brady needing to be a superhero. But I think we're all just destined to be on the verge of going to Coronary Care, with all of Brady's teams.

Good luck lads, may the best team win! Should be a cracker!

The legacy is cemented at this point, this game is one that can be properly enjoyed in my eyes.

Lets hope they can pull one more out and only serve to further enhance the legend. It certainly can't be tarnished.

    Go Pats!

Hard luck lads, great game and probably the weirdest Superbowl I can remember. THis was about as different a game to expectation as anyone could imagine

    Whoop won the toss
    It’s all we won.
Defense absolutely brutal in every way.
Gilmore maybe did well. But the other DBs were appalling.
OL just had to screw up that one time after playing so well.
Not sure what the deal was with Butler, but Rowe just got killed so often. McCourty is over paid and does nothing.
Massive chance blown. Big changes in the off season.

The defence from the first 6 games Of The season showed up to today unfortunately, Can't ask more of TB12, he loses nothing in defeat. He was heroic.

    Great game.Congrats to the Eagle's.

To give up 41 points is an utter disgrace

These thing happen unfortunately. We couldn't get to Foles and it cost us, but their D was crap too so there is no real excuse.
One thought came into my head a few times and it was how much we miss Julian, he'd have been the difference tonight if he was there.

And they messed up their XPs.

Patricia going might be a blessing in disguise, a half decent defence and this team would walk the league with a fit Brady. Sick of this let them all the way down the field and stop home in the redzone.

    Is that Patricia or Bill?
Looking at the roster, it’s not that talented in the D. Hightower was the big loss tonight. Gilmore did well I thought, but everyone else had a bad night.

We drove the field at will 2nd half. Our lack of a D was the problem.

Absolutely gutted. We didn't punt the whole game yet still lost (first team since 1960 to do so apparently).

A shambolic performance from the D. Whatever happened to Butler, or whatever he did, may well have cost us the game. I'm genuinely stunned at how poor that D was. It will be interesting to find out in the coming games just what the hell happened.

I don't want to sound bitter though, on the day Philly completely deserved it. Better team and looked in control for the majority of it.

    Patricia is an excellent DC

The D played poorly tonight, they were dominated by the O line, they missed terrible open field tackles, the exclusion of Butler is annoying especially considering the refusal to get off the field on 3rd down.

Can't expect to win games you give up 41 points in. I take issue with the first contentious TD the Eagles got, but no issue with the second. Missed field goals and extra points also cost us.

Can do nothing but give credit to the Eagles though, they played a great game offensively, deserved winners.

Thanks to Brady and co though for yet another, one hell of a season.

No, Brady lost the ball if you remember.
Offense was poor in the first half and that left us behind.
There was no defense on show tonight from either team, our D was shambolic for sure but our offense left it out there too.

Really don't get people criticising him. He's been phenomenal for us. He'll be very hard replaced. Defence lacks players if anything.

The Offense had over 600 yards and were not the issue in the slightest.

You can't give any QB that much time in the pocket, no pressure whatsoever.

Bill said Butler didn't play for football reason which I can't get my head around, he couldn't have been any worse then what was out there

Disastrous D tonight, don't know what happened with Malcolm but he would have been useful. Gutted. Absolutely gutted.

Pass rush has been an issue all year. The talent isn’t there. I was ok with trading Jones, but we didn’t replace him. Collins went and again that type of player wasn’t brought in.

We thought we’d a very good secondary on paper, but it was brutal for most of the season. Gilmore got better, but Butler was terrible, McCourty doesn’t make plays, and the rest of the cast were the reason we were ranked in the bottom for yards. Eventually, against playoff opponents, you can pay for that.

There's some games where offensive players just make plays and this was one of them. Both teams can look at their (by and large good defences) and wonder how did we give up so many yards/points but when Pats fans research this they'll also see the Eagles took way too many chances and were ultra aggressive. It worked out tonight but wouldn't work another day. The Eagles have shown all year that they have that aggression and also an ability to tailor and tinker gameplans throughout. It was a lot harder to move the ball in second half but foles kept making plays. There's no shame in losing when it's to good execution and today the eagles executed. This might be a crap performance in the eyes of some fans but you should still remember you's get into a position to win and in the second half had all the momentum. It was a knife edge tonight and was always gonna turn on which defence made the big play.
The pats have some work to do in the off-season if butler leaves but it's not a massive rebuild just a bit of tinkering and you'll still start next year as the favourites. With another year maybe Gilmore turns a corner or a young lad steps up

I wouldn't be too bothered about the yardage stat, bend don't break is a staple of BB football, the D played well for most of the season. People like Hightower badly missed tonight, I do think that Eagles O line is one of if not the best in pro football so while it is very frustrating Foles had time to read a newspaper before deciding what to do each play there are times when you just have to applaud the opponent.

3rd down killed us. Cooks going out really hurt, JE11 missing was terrible but for the most part we just got out gunned by a ruthless team, they went for it and it came off more for them than for us.

    Well said Stringer.

Eric Rowe said he didn't know he was starting until right before the game. What could possibly of happened that late???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,159 ✭✭✭mrkiscool2

Hey lads. Just wanted to pop in and say that was a hell of a game. The offense left it all out on the field and it really took a special play to derail Brady. He was immense, as was your O-line and your team. And, as fans, it was a joy interacting with ye in the match thread. You'll be back.

I'm really torn on Patricia after tonight. I did say a few times before that I think he has a lot to learn still and I wish him Luck in Detroit. I think Bill has to take some of the blame though. I really do hope we find out Butler did something horrible because it hurt us not having him.

I do believe the rest of the league tend to hype up Patricia, but I've never been absolutely convinced. I know it's never going to happen with Bill around, but I'd love to bring in an external DC that could really shake things up. As it is, I think Flores will be the next DC.

Sounds like Butler wasn't given much of an explanation.

Hope there is a disciplinary reason behind this as its not appearing as something handled with much class on the surface.

Whatever happened with Butler will come out in the wash, it always does. It is incredible it got to game time basically and that he was able to play ST. I just don't get it, I'll wait to hear more (and not a journalist saying that Butler said, they gave up on me) Something a little more substantial.

His time as a Patriot is done so I am sure we will hear at least one version of the story in the near future.
