I was on my way to work when I noticed something in the water. As I got closer I noticed it was an otter. I got great views of it as it swam around the liffey. It was aware I was looking at it but it didn't seem to care. I had seen them before by Heuston train station. A nice way to start the day. I am attaching a couple of poor shots but I think one of them shows that nature can happen even in the busiest of areas...

    That's great to see.
I must remember to bring my camera the next time I'm in the city.
I spent several hours along the Grand Canal last Saturday hoping to photograph Otters at a spot where they have been seen many times, but had no luck at all.
On Monday, I was walking my dog down by the canal and one popped up onto the bank literally metres from me, but didn't have the camera with me! :(
Despite not getting a photo, it was still wonderful to see it and I went home thrilled. :)

I seen one about 3 or 4 years ago in the Liffey, down by Houston Station

I shared your photo on FB with a couple of friends and it ended up on Irish Wildlife Trusts page where it is getting a lot of interest. I hope you don't mind, B

considering a 'Bill Domican' is being credited, it seems that the wrong person is getting the credit.

Otter scat in Dun Laoghaire harbour is apparently quite prevalent around the marina east breakwater (http://dlharbour.ie/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Harbour-Approach-V2.pdf) which suggests otters living there. Great to see the population establishing itself around the coast.

I've been seeing an otter quite regularly in the Liffey beside the Guinness brewery on the way into work recently. However this morning there were 3 of them splashing around in the river.

    Great to see.

Years ago I stumbled across one with steam rising from its corpse, just having been hit by a car along Herbert Place, a few hundred feet from the Pepper Cannister Church (Saint Stephen's Church), Dublin 2.

    The pelt is something else.

Saw one in the Liffey this morning for the first time this year up beside the Civil Defence.

I looked over the wall and it was swimming upstream right below. It actually stopped and looked straight up at me. I went to get my phone to take a picture but it dived and resurfaced about 50 yards further upstream.

Absolutely chuffed to have seen one so close.

Two in the Liffey this morning splashing around just beside Church St bridge. The tide was fairly low so I could see them quite clearly under the water aswell. First time I've seen one in well over a year, good to see they're still about
