If you just book your test as normal and ring them up a short time later to ask for a cancellation slot, they can offer you a number of dates and times for you to pick, or failing any present cancellations they can put you on a waiting list for a cancellation spot.

That's probably the best you can get in terms of choosing a date.

When I booked mine the only dates I could choose from were a couple of weeks away. So I asked to be sent out a date! It depends where you're booking it I'd say.

Sometimes there is the option to select your own date and time. It depends on whether your on or off "EDT hold" and/or the test centre you choose

Thanks for your reply, what does EDT hold mean? I got my provisional before the EDTs came in so don't think that's the issue. The test centre would be Tallaght

Thanks for the replies yeah it must just be different test centre so. Would just be so much easier if I could pick my date

It just means that a candidate's 12 lessons aren't all uploaded which obviously doesn't apply to you

You can choose your own time/date in advance only when applying to the larger test centres.
