2008 Mondeo Turbo

    Hi all,

Wife was driving the Mondeo the other day and went into limp home mode (2008 125k miles)

Got it towed to a ford garage and they've said the turbo is gone, €2,500 to fix!

Does anyone know if it's worthwhile getting it reconditioned and also will there be much saving from getting it to a non dealer mechanic?

    Thanks

Bring it to an indie mechanic. Madness bringing it to ford. Get the 2 belts done while you're at it. Might get an overall saving with the two jobs done in the one sitting.

    That's a crazy price.

    Go indy

Recon'd Turbo is €350. So whatever your mechanic will charge ontop of that for labour. Personally I'd be wanting the engine flushed and the sump/oil pick-up dropped and thoroughly cleaned.

As mentioned do the timing belts, especially the wet-belt. They're brutal :(

I know I nearly fell of the seat when I heard that, I knew they screwed you price wise in a main dealer but had no idea to that degree!

Having problems with the dash too it's pretty much dead, think it's a known problem and may have to have that part fixed with them 😠

Is it the 1.8 or 2.0? The 2.0 only has the one belt.

    It's the 1.8 125bhp 6 speed Zetec.

It's 125k miles... Maybe 129 at most, talked to a local lad whose been recommended, reckons at most €1400 for a reconditioning and refit.
