Losing my religion

I got into detailing reasonably seriously for the last 2-3 years. Car was immaculate most of the time. Six months ago I just thought 'sod it, I can't be arsed with this' and I stopped. Completely. The car is filthy.

I intend to clean it before the nct and maybe one other time during the year. I have lots of product and will continue to employ good technique, but only once or twice a year.

Has anyone experienced this? Will the love return?

You'll probably find that when you actually get out and start that you'll do more than you intended. However the want to do a wash more often may not return until you change your car or similar.

Winter has dampened my enthusiasm for it alright. But when weather picks up i'll go at it more often

I think the winter dampens everyone's enthusiasm for detailing. Freezing cold, rain/dew on the car before you get a chance to wax/protect it, car filthy after 1 journey due to mucky roads, more tar/stone chips on the car because of roads being in sh!t, weather too cold to use a D/A, wax not curing before dew sets in, interior condensation on freshly polished glass..........I could go on :P

Don't forget the joy of having a few kiddies.

Nail on the head there. It's very disheartening to spend hours on a car and then have it covered in muck after 10 miles. That said, I spent a day on one of the cars last summer then turned left out the gate the following morning for work. Road covered in cowshít. Turned around to go the other way, 100 yards later, road covered in cowshít. No choice but to drive through it. Joys of rural life. Winter is great for spending a small fortune on products and accessories in anticipation of Spring though!!!

Did you know that it's illegal for farmers to leave a road covered in sh!t or muck from the tyres of a tractor after they've been in a field? Cars can lose grip but it's especially applicable to motorcyclists.

Trust me, I know!! My oul fella used have me out with a shovel and brush on the road anytime we were at slurry and years later when I had a construction firm I always made sure the roads were cleaned if we were using them. Most farmers around here are good too but no matter how well it's cleaned a wet road will still spray ****e up. Although the farmer to our left makes no attempt whatsoever, leaves clumps of muck on the road, zero cleaning after him. Am waiting for the next time he does this as I'll be having stern words about his duties according to the law.

Same - I tell the OH or if someone borrows the car to stay out of puddles and drive slowly through them if they cant be avoided. The salt mix that has been sprayed on the roads the last few days has been a nightmare having to drive behind anyone!
