2002 Nissan Navara 2.5 Diesel (Advice)?

Hi all, just been offered a 2002 Nissan Navara for cheap money by one of my father's friends, problem is, the owner filled it up with diesel and was driving and the engine started losing power.

He thinks it may be a power loss in one of the cylinders. I've never seen the car before myself but my father has and is going to further inspect the body and condition of it. The biggest problem is the engine, could it be faulty diesel that's causing the car to lose power? or is it a turbo or like the owner says that one of the cylinders has lost compression? I really need advice as what could the problem be exactly as it could turn into a nice runabout project or a money pit disaster!
