Can a lecturer change the time of a lecture permanently? (College break)

This happened a couple of years when I returned to college for the second semester.
We were originally given a time table for college which were lectures from 9am-1pm a break between 1pm and 2pm and lectures in the afternoon from 2pm to 5pm. First weekend went ahead as normal but the second week we all received an email one morning saying the lecture from 4pm to 5pm that day was moving to our lunch time slot.
Lots of people that day didn't attend the lecture and the lecture caught up with them that day and said "I'm going to go out of the way and fail everyone of you"
The lecture in question never asked the year head/head of department could he change the time and to the best of our knowledge he wanted change times so he could go home early.
Is there any law saying that college students should be given a break?

Amazing conduct by a lecturer - threatening fail on those who miss a lecture where the time changed without notification.

Get your Students' Representative to take it up with the Dean of the Faculty (assuming there isn't an agreed procedure for dealing with those situations.

Relax, they're not going to fail you based on missing a lecture. Check your department policies but timetables are subject to change.

I thought I said in the originally post it happened a few years ago.

You said it happened a couple of years which sounds like it just happened again.

There's no legal obligation to go to lectures and it's not like employment as you're availing of the college as a service so I don't know how breaks could be legislated for. Unless there's a specific unbreakable policy in the college they can basically do what they want.

Sorry about that my mistake. Thanks for the advice.

Was it not addressed at the time though? There's nothing you can do about it now...unless you're appealing something?

No, I think we arranged with another lecturer for her to take us at a different time so we'd have a break on that day.
It's years ago and I'm not appealing anything.

    So why ask now?

I'm wondering about the Roman invasion of England. Did they actually have underfloor heating?

Most universities dont have lunch breaks. I went to a secondary school where there no designated lunch break. You just hoped your timetable allowed a break at some stage during the day.

It doesnt make sense to have a several million euro college lecture hall empty at lunch everyday. I have had plenty of 1-2pm lectures. I have had lectures & tutorials from 10am to 7pm with an hours break in them.

AFAIK most colleges allow software to decide all the lectures. I dont see why a designated lunch break should be a given

What about the canteen that the college spent millions on?
Lunch breaks in the college were generally given between 12-1 or 1-2.

    Generally but not always.

There's only so many lecture halls and so many hours so they do what they can to accommodate everyone.

It doesn't make sense to have every room empty at the same time and the cafeteria packed.

Why is this in the legal forum?

Basically to find out could a lecturer change the time table to suit themselves and to find out if college student were their any laws regarding breaks at college.

    Yes, they did.

If you could find an old copy of Domus Idealus you might find a write up

I can't stand reading articles by Kevin McClaudius, though.
