Was looking at watches in argos at the weekend and checked out the jewellery at the same time.

They have some stunning and great value rings - engagement/wedding/eternity. Worth considering.

They do indeed but me thinks that they don't last very long. I know two people who got their rings in there and you would nearly guess, there is no shine off them after 6 months..

I still wear a ring my then boyfriend got me from Argos that cost him less than 100 punts back in 1996. Still in great condition.

Sounds like they were cheap rings.

I bought my wedding ring in Argos more than 10 years ago - a plain gold band. It's still in great condition, has some small scratches as I wear it every day but nothing that wouldn't polish out. I don't regret buying it there, it was less than €100 and when you're paying for a wedding, every little counts!

If I was going for something more complicated, with stones or made of platinum, or anything that needed regular cleaning or maintenance, then I would buy at a jewelers that would also do the work.

White gold is a pain in the bum! My last rings were white gold and they had to be dipped almost annually....drove me mad in the end, I'd never go for white gold again....and we paid a huge amount of money for ours from Applebys!

A plain gold band should be fine there but im not so sure about the rest.

I don't know me thinks with white gold it depends on the quality... Mine seem to be lasting quite well now no scratches still shinning brightly.. I keep getting scared I take them off when I wash my hands and might forget to put them back on, and its like mmm im missing something..

Well honestly Milly, ours was top notch! I wore them all the time and didn't take them off for any reason so that might have hastened things along but went with platinum this time....no maintanence with those!

I never take my rings off in case i lose them. And im always mucking about . They're fairly robust though. Platinum. Developing the patina already.

My rings are white gold, I never take them off and they still look perfect. Not married that long, 2.5 years but rings certainly don't need to be dipped yet. It ,I gut depend on the original quality.

Apparently depends on teh mix in the metal - most jewellers now getting a different mix so it stays white much longer than the older style metal.
