Shelbourne Wedding

We are thinking of having a medium size (60-70) wedding (civil) in the Shelbourne. We do not have a party size for the ballroom so will be using their rooms/suites.

I live abroad and the hotel was too busy whilst I was home over Christmas to show us around/meet. Is there anyone with any experience of this type of wedding at this location? Any pointers?

I do a lot of work events (private functions) in the Shelbourne and there is NO flexibility with them at all. My last experience was quite bad and I have told them I wont be working with them again. They are very overpriced for average food, but then again their location is stunning. And there is no denying the atmosphere is nice!

Cheers for the info, location is one of our main things, we have allot of people flying in for it. Plus the history of the place and we have of the place.

Pee'd off to hear the food is average. I have had dinner in the restaurant ( a few years back now) and it was very nice.

You cannot go wrong with the location and the atmosphere, but you pay for it. The function food is what I mean by average, they mass produce it. But like everything if you pay more you get a better selection!

Not quite as brilliant a location, but 5 mins walk away is Fallon & Byrne where I've been to 2 brilliant weddings. Their wine cellar is a lovely reception room and their top floor dining room might be a perfect size for you. Great food too.

Try the Cliff Town house also, exact same location and half the price!

I had a look at Cliff town house and it may be a great shout thanks.

Fallon & Byrne doesn't have accommodation so its a no go. Lovely place though, I've been a few times.

A work colleagues brother got married in The Conrad a couple of months, similar sized wedding to your own.

By all accounts everything was fantastic from food to service.

Had my own wedding reception (~85 guests) in Cliff Townhouse in 2014. Couldn't rate it highly enough. Lovely venue, great service, excellent food. It would be on the pricer end of the scale, but you get what you pay for.

We got a lot of compliments from our guests on the reception, particularly the food.

Some friends had a small wedding in the Shelbourne in December and by all accounts were very happy with the service, the room (Constitution Room) and the food. I wasn't at the meal myself, just drinks afterwards but the staff seemed very attentive and helpful and the room was beautiful.

I had my reception in the Cliff Town House as well - 32 guests - and it was fabulous. We had pre-dinner drinks in the Shelbourne (we reserved an area in the bar) and then into the Cliff House for dinner. They have a function room upstairs that we used.

The caveat here is that we got married in 2008 and it was known as Bentley's then!! Same place though!!

Cheers for the feedback, cliff town house is working out the same price as the shelbourne but we would have more people staying at the same venue at the shelbourne.

Not keen on the westin etc

The Morrison has a new and modern reception room that would suit your numbers also.

What about the Hibernian Club on Stephens Green? Guests could still stay at the shelbourne as its about a 2min walk.

I had dinner at the Shelbourne recently, it was at a small family event. The food was beautiful, but they left options off the menu that were on the selected sample menu. It was very expensive and I know the person who organised it was very annoyed to not have the menu they had paid for.
