I hope to be attending NUI Galway this September. Have been looking around for accomodation to get it out of the way and was just wondering is corrib really that bad?

If you dont want anything fancy corrib village is grand. My daughter stayed there in first year at least when you pay your money up front thats it.
She is in rented accomadation now and paying over 100e a week an pay for their heating esb and any other costs after that.
She is going back to student accomation next year

In fairness that's probably not the norm, even though the rent has gone up a lot in galway on average. Most people including myself are paying sub-400 and even sub-350 for rent. My own includes bins & internet - obviously esb, water and heating are extra but still fairly negligible as it's split between a few people and they're not monthly costs.

Dozens of threads on this already. Not sure how you're going to get through university if you can use a search function.

Do it. Do it now. Revel in the environment. Spend a year not giving a **** about your lodging.

It was great for me. I think every first year should stay there. Rough it for a year making class friends and having mad banter.

Then escape and never come back. Look back on it fondly.

It's a dump. However it's also a great place to meet people to live with for the next year! :)
