Hi was thinking of getting one of these.. Im a complete dummy when it comes to these things.. I was told by a guy who knows a small bit about this stuff that i would need good broadband in the house. Problem is i have no landline.
Alls i have internet-wise in my house is an O2 Dongle..
Is there any way around this..
If not i would consider getting sky but have i still a problem there with not having a landline..

A box will work off Wi-Fi.
Is it a like a USB stick or a Mi-Fi device you have?
If you have over 4 Mbps you'll be OK.

Most Sky channels are off the dish and don't need a landline, but you won't get their on demand stuff, catch-up tv, box sets, etc.

I'd have my doubts with the dongle. I mean these android boxes are just somewhat organised gateways to dodgy streams to begin with where theres never any guarantee on quality and reliability. Then you throw mobile dongle internet in the mix. I may be wrong, but I could see this being more frustration than anything else. But lets wait for someone who has 1st hand experience I'm only making an educated guess here.

juste a USB Stick , checked the speeds and its right on 4.. But iv only an allowance of 15gb per month , im guessing u would want unlimited usage if im running this android box

That doesnt bother me Boskowski, i just want it for the sports.. So u reckon Sky stick up a dish and thats it sorted?
I would prefer the once off payment for the android box but if there unreliable ,and the hassle of having no landline , maybe il just go with sky

You'll need broadband for one of these boxes and yes unlimited downloads is necessary as the amount of data transfer with visor streaming can be massive.

I have an unlimited 40mbps eircom line and sometimes struggle with an Ethernet connection to the box.

Like I said wait for someone who has tried that actual set-up before.

But I know people with those boxes and tv series and films seem ok enough even though quality wouldn't be what I'd call nice viewing. But when it comes to live sports quality is often no more than 360p with stuttering and I wouldn't even watch that on my laptop. And these guys have landline. Maybe ok for cheapskates but what am I working for if I can't even enjoy decent quality television in my downtime.
Then add the dongle internet on top of that which can be ok but can be also absolute ****e for streaming depending on location, weather, load, godknowswhat. Wouldn't be for me, I rather pay the money and lean back and enjoy my sports with no hassle, a decent box, planner and HD recording etc.
