So as the title says I'm 19 and had a claim this year unfortunately. Very little damage done but he still managed to claim 3300 for a job that was quoted at 1200. Basically it's coming to renewal time now and all I'm getting is sorry you fall outside our criteria. I know I drive what would be considered a big car for someone my age a 1.7cdti astra but even if I go to a 1l it makes no difference. The only quote I have managed to get is through axa and they want 4600 for it like that's just not possible while being a student. I need my car for commuting as I live in the back of no where so does anybody know of anywhere that might be able to give me a half decent quote would be grateful thanks.

Have you tried brokers? Also when your getting quotes are you doing it by phone or online? It's better to do it by phone because with the online system once you don't fit the criteria it won't quote, whereas on the phone you're more likely to get something.

A broker is your best bet TBH.

I'd say a broker is mandatory; you're to young and you got a claim against you already. You may get it lowered if going with the 123 app or similar that will monitor your driving to lower it.

What was your current insurer's premium last year and what are they quoting you this year?

Basically Liberty wont quote me because i have a claim even though I'm with them at the moment just through a Broker. The broker is just being a pain as usual its worse than drawing blood from a stone as to get a quote of them. From the quotes I have managed to get which seem to be in around €4500 it looks like I would be better off taking out a loan to pay off the €3300 for the claim and get my no claims bonus back. This makes m insurance €1300 so it basically would pay of after the first year and the claim has to be told about for 3 years so they will basically try screw me for 3 years if I dont. If any of ye have had experiences like this please let me know what ye did :)

Liberty, as your current insurer HAVE to offer you a renewal quotation under insurance regulations. To be clear, the policy is in your name, yes?

Ah that's different. Your broker will have your renewal quote and Liberty are not going to quote you directly, in competition against themselves. If you are not happy with the service from your current broker, you can always transfer your Liberty policy to another broker to act on your behalf (known as mandating). Either that or instruct Liberty to deal directly with you, but the premium might be much higher

I'm hoping I can change to another broker basically to put it simply this one left me in right auld situation when i has the accident I had gotten the car a few days earlier and had told them i was changing it gave them the reg and all and though jasus grand ill have the disc in a few days. So anyway had the tip and was just waiting to see what the quote would be before going to insurance so a week later rang them told them i had the tip and all that and it turned out i wasnt insured on the car the guy had just put down a random car same make and model but just a different reg altogether so I found this out from a guard who was questioning me on my cover. Like it has really turned me off going back to them this year but its hard to find another that will get me a quote

The service sounds horrendous OP, and I would certainly be looking for another broker asap.
