I've only started drinking lager recently after being a cider drinker for years. I think Bud was the first lager I ever tried and that turned me off it. Anyway I like Desparados and Miller. What other beers are similar to these?

Sierra Nevada's Nooner Pilsner or Lagunitas Pils

You can't really go wrong with most German lagers, at least with the ones they sell here. Czech stuff is mostly tasty too. Galway Hooker make a really nice lager as well, good bit of body behind it.

If you're looking to keep it cheap, I find Perlenbacher (in LIDL) very drinkable. Not as nice since they switched to the green bottles though. Also worth trying from LIDL is the Crafty Brewing Co. Lager.

    Spaten on the macro front

On the Irish craft side 8 degrees or BoBristle do a nice lager. Galway Hooker do a good dark lager if your interested

8 Degrees lager is fantastic - its a regular here and would be moreso if I didn't have to go to Lucan to buy it. I'm still a lager drinker at heart despite near total conversion... Also, it'd be nice if they did bigger than 330 bottles.

Try a Pilsner Urquell. Lovely Czech pilsner lager and readily available in most places here.

I think the lads have the craft beer suggestions covered, some more mainstream options here if you're somewhere where craft beer isn't an option...

If you like Miller and looking for something easily available then you will probably like Molson Canadian.
I think Tuborg, Amstel, Stella Artois, Kronenburg 1664 would also be to your taste.
Back in the pre-craft beer day they'd be the ones I'd keep an eye out for in unfamiliar places, or sometimes you just want a draught beer...

Especially at gigs and events you'll likely get a limited selection.
If your only options are Carlsberg, Bud, Guinness or Heineken, I think Carlsberg would be most similar.

And with food, I'd recommend Nastro Azzurro Peroni, a lot of restaurants (not just Italian ones) will stock this but not say Miller.
So if you're looking at the menu and not sure what to plump for, keep that in mind.

If you like Desperados then you could pivot to Corona or Sol (with the necessary slice of lime).

'Helles' style German lagers are worth a shot too if you're fortunate enough to come across any (not excluding the aforementioned Spaten...)

Not a big lager drinking these days but one I tend to still buy if I see it is the Japanese lager Kirin - Ichiban Shibori. Well worth trying out.

I had an 8 Degrees Barefoot Bohemian pilsner lager last night. Great beer, really to my tastes lager-wise. I'd recommend it.

Just tried Brauperle Pils - very nice, clean and smooth. Comes in 500ml cans, 4.5% — got a few at random (only 69c a can, from a small convenience shop I was passing in France). Seems to be produced by Hofbräuhaus Vertriebs in Germany, if I'm reading it right. Goes very well with pizza.

Had a good bit of the Crafty Brewing Co. stuff over Christmas - would recommend. You can see how it won a Great Taste award.

Had a few pints of Galway Bay Brewery's Dortmunder and it is very nice imho. Crisp, balanced falvour with good carbonation. Definitely worth a gander.

I've been trying out a local micro brewer's stuff, and it's quite good. Celtic Warrior pale ale from Hyland brewing here in Cavan.
I also love Kinnegar Brewing "Lime Burner" when I can get it.( it's from Donegal)
