Hi got a letter from ravenue.
"You have been selected for a PAYE check for tax year 2014.
    Asking for
*flat rate expenses (let me have a description of your supose's trade, profession or occupation.
*p60/p45 for 2014 i.e a statment of your earnings and tax deducted avaliable from your employer.

Also they add the book about penalties and what can happen if you give wrong info to them.
I got p45 in Sep 2015 and in 2014 I was on sick leave.
Am I in trouble or something?

Are you claiming flat rate expenses of so are you entitled to them. Were you in receipt of illness benefit while out.

Did you file a return for 2014?

For January to December 2014 you need to provide proof of your all your taxable income eg p60, statement of DSP payments etc. If you claimed any additional tax credits or reliefs such as flat rate expenses you need to explain how you qualify for them.

Is there a number to call on the letter to speak with the case officer dealing with it? If not write back to the address on the letter stating you were in receipt of illness benefit only 2014.

I got a letter like this a few years ago and thought it was unusual as regular PAYE worker with no additional income. Seems something they do at random i.e. an audit of the system. I didn't return it on time and when tried to claim back tax I was told my account was essentially locked until I returned the form. When I did there was no issue. So I wouldn't worry that you're selected because you've done anything wrong
