    Hi guys.

Im going to Thailand in total for 2 weeks and 2 days. Flying into Bangkok and flying out of Puket. Its tight on time so id love suggestions on good itineary.

Ideally id like to do some kind of jungle trek in north for a day or 2 after seeing bangkok. Then hit a nice island or 2 down south. Dont mind been on move but certainly at end want a relaxing few beach days.

Is it best to exchange euros over there rather than here. Heard rates are better. Going start of March

    Alan

Can you extend your stay? 2 weeks really isin't enough.

When i'm there I just load my credit card with X amount (usually 500 euro at a time) and take it out at the ATM. No (irish) bank charges but a 200 baht (5eur) charge for using foreign card at Thai ATM. The 1% charge is worth it to me for peace of mind of not having too much cash on me at any one time.

    I would say:
3 nights in Bangkok (many would disagree, but there's so much to do)
    3 nights in Chiang Mai

The above is assuming you are flying between Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Don't fall for the notion that the train journey is 'romantic' or fun. Anyone I know that has done it said the novelty wore off after an hour. We flew (1 hour) and were glad we did. The train is about 12 hours over-nighter (don't think you're saving a day, you'll be wrecked the day after the train journey)

Then the rest of the time down South. What do you want to do? Personally i'd give Phuket a miss... you could be in Tenerife and you wouldn't know the difference.

Are you more into beach parties, or isolated "i'm in paradise" islands? I can advise once I know the answers to that. Again, I suggest flying (can be gotten very cheap. We got a fly n' ferry from Bangkok to Koh Lipe for 50 euro last month)

Yeah i will fly to Chiang Mai unless trains have beds but i doubt that. Would you have to prebook a jungle tour? Can you recommend any? id like to sit on elepants, see tigers, do a boat trip. I know something has to give

Then fly south. Your not the first to say skip Phuket. Id like to snorkle in south. stay in huts that are on stilts over water. eat in resturants where the water flows past your table and chairs. Certainly we would like to do one night anyway on a beach party.

The trains do have beds. I got the second class with air con and it was grand. I slept the whole way. The second class without air con is pretty rough though! Windows open, bugs flying everywhere and it's really noisy. The extra few quid is well worth it.

But on a two week holiday if certainly be flying everywhere, especially south after Chaing Mai.

I looked at train journeys when I was there 2 years ago but it's so much handier to fly.. especially if you're only going to be there 2 weeks!

    Fly.

Internal flights can be got for ~€20 return.

When and where can they be got this cheap? They were always roughly 100 return when I've looked. Similar price now

Usually Airasia flights can be booked very cheap especially in advance.

I found internal flights cheap with the exception of Bangkok airways. Samui will always be expensive as BA have monopoly on the airport

I will almost certainly fly.. I was thinking of a break down like this?

    3 days bangkok
3 days Chang mai including 1 day jungle trek
Then go to Krabi or Ko Saumi?

Ko Saumi seems to have nice mix but id like to certainly stay in a remote island for a night or 2. Snorkle a bit and have party night in the south .I have to finish in phuket. So any recommendations?

BKK-CNX ranges between €20 (6-4months advance) to €55 (1-2 Months advance) in my experience.

Even now throwing a few dates into skyscanner for March is throwing up €42 return flights.
