Has any here any recent experience with using ear plugs while playing? Have tried to use standard ear plugs that you can buy in pharmacy or a DIY shop, but they cut out too much and can only hear myself. I play saxophone.
Play with different groups, sometimes in front of trumpets, trombones or with lots of amplification.

Hi a-onimous, I used to drum quite a lot for a few bands. I started to get worried about my hearing, so I was advised to get doc-proplugs. They're used for various water sports, but quite useful for playing music. You'll be able to hear the music, and communicate onstage; but when playing, they cut down the harsh frequencies and piercing sounds... Check them out. The key is to get properly fitted for them though!
