Can raised bog land be successfully ploughed and seeded ? Has anyone done it here ?

Did some reclamation on cutaway raised bog back in the 1980's... it's now nearly 20 years in forestry

So you were down to solid ground so you could plant ? What I was wondering was just seeding with grass

It was still very peaty...Maybe more cut over bog than cut away. Did manage to get a grass sward in it but it was long before rushes took over and pipe drains became blocked.

It is possible but the long term success depends on depth of bog and what you bring up.
It may not be legal depending on where it is
It is also frowned upon nowadays by a lot of people who see it as destruction of habitat.
Maybe seek professional advice first from teagasc or agri advisor.

Not raised but cutaway bog. Like merryberry I put trees on the wettest part. I have ryegrass growing on peaty land, but it needs to be re-seeded a lot more often than drier soils, every 5 years instead of 10 years or longer on dry land.

I have failed to grow clover on it, pH and wet just don't suit it. However it is simple to reseed it, cattle poach it, shake grass seed with fert spreader, let cattle in again before it germinates to cover the seed. You are better off with timothy type grass which is in mixtures for wet land. Don't plough it, any nutrients that are there are in the top few cms. I think cotswold seeds in UK might be worth a look, https://www.cotswoldseeds.com/product/acid-clay-soil-mixture

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

What depth and what cover is on it.

If its heather and deep I'd leave it alone.

I have reclaimed some peat type ground but ploughing it will cause the surface to be really soft for years.
