    Hi there,

Organising a week away with my Mum in early June.

A week away flying into Faro. Initially I had though we would base ourselves in Abuferia, but I am now wondering what is Faro itself like?

We just want a week of relaxation and a little bit of sightseeing - maybe two days. We are not sun worshippers but like sitting in the shade with a drink etc.

Can't decide between which two of these places to go to. Mum isn't a great traveller so I am not going to go anywhere that involves multiple modes of transport, hence why both these locations seem good.

    Hi there
I have read your post. Yes The Algarve sounds like a lovely place indeed. I was there when I was 4 and I had a great time there. Yes Faro city itself sounds lovely. It is quite a small city which sounds good for your mother and yes there are plenty of hotels that you can stay in. For sightseeing there is a cathedral which if you walk to the top you have magificent views of the Algarve. It is a fairly quiet city so it is good for your mother. And early June is a lovely time to go as it is not too hot at that time and also it is before the tourist season so it should be nice and quiet also.
    Good Luck

I would second Faro. We stayed a few nights. Lots of places to see a nice marina to walk around and nice cafes and places to eat and drink.
Cute streets to browse the shops.
We stayed in Hotel Eva and it was fab so I would recommend that. The hotel was looking on to the marina and there was a few nice places to have a drink and food in close by.
As it is a working city things were much cheaper than in the resorts which are priced at tourists.
    Enjoy !

I presume as you are travelling with your Mum that nightclubs and all night bars are NOT on your agenda??!

In which case.............The further west you go the nicer it is!!!!

Nowhere east of Lagos should be considered!

If with your mum Faro is nice village. Other places in that region are the usual tacky strips.
