Quitting work

    Hi,
I currently work 3 day weeks in a warehouse on an agency contract for around 6-7 months.
I have done a few months as 5-6 day weeks. Did a good few days over Christmas but now back on a 3 day week schedule because I have college on the days off. Its a part time college course.
About me: I am 20 and have a 3 month old baby. My girlfriend lives with me at my parents house. The social welfare want her to work or do an internship and she wants to work so were gonna try switch roles until I finish college.
My gf wants to go work so I need to quit essentially. Plus I don't have enough time for study or being a proper dad.
If I just quit what will the social welfare give me? Want to finish college and start back working in the summer this time in a proper decent paid job.
Thanks for any advice I just don't know what to do. My parents make me feel bad for saying I'll quit but my GF really needs me to.

If your girlfriend makes a SW claim she can claim for you and the baby
If she gets a job for at least 19 1/2 hours per week she could claim FIS for herself if on low pay
Ypu cannot claim any payment in your own right. as you are not looking for or available for wprk

Can we get FIS were we are now? In my parents? I think their applying for FIS for themselves.
I work around 21 hours PW so could do that now? But will we even get much is the question.

Your parents and siblings are,or should be, one family and you your girlfriend and baby are a completely separate family just living in the one house
Do you have younger siblings living in the house?
You certainly can apply for FIS in your parents house
They can apply for FIS themselves in respect of your siblings
If your parents are applying for FIS then they can't include you as a qualified child because your not in full time education
If you or your girlfriend have at least 19 1/2 hours per week work, or if your combined hours come to at least that, or 38 hours per fortnight then you can apply for FIS if your combined income comes to less than €516 per week
Say your income was €300 per week
You deduct the €300 from the €516 so €216
    Then get 60% of €216
So you would get €130 per week FIS

Thanks this helps a lot. Looks like I'm gonna still work and we move elsewhere.

    But why are you moving?

    But why are you moving?

    Different reason. Trouble at home.

    Different reason. Trouble at home.

Don't make any hasty moves. I'm not patronising you but you and your family are very young and will find it hard under your current circumstances to live independently. Rental properties are thin on the ground everywhere and rents are very high. You would probably be allowed onto the housing list and qualify for a HAP payment though. If you look up the rent supplement limits http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/supplementary_welfare_schemes/rent_supplement.html for the county you are in and look at the rent limit for your circumstances (couple with one child) then you can see the maximum price per month that a landlord can charge you for a property.
So first of all go to your Local Authority and complete the "In need of Housing form". http://www.environ.ie/en/LocalGovernment/LocalGovernmentAdministration/LocalAuthorities/ They will process it and if as I suspect you are admitted to the housing list, you can look for property to rent within your limits, and then you can apply to your local authority for a HAP payment. Your contribution to the rent every week as a couple will be at least €40. So as well as rent you will have utilities, bins, water, heating, and the usual groceries, babies things etc. its not easy.

Stupid boards just deleted my entire text because you had URLs in your text and I quoted it...
I'm not making hasty decisions, my mother wants us gone. Just came to light yesterday and we don't have long left here.
Thanks for your reply, I'll try get into them Monday. I hope its a speedy process to get renting.
