Anyone know how to go about this if the full employment history is not known. Is there a central way to do it ?

Officially there is no central way to do it, every company pension is separate and I don't believe the Pensions Board/Authority logs the names of individual members. Your best bet might be via the Dept of Social Welfare who (based on PRSI contributions) might be able to give you the years he worked in various places and the employers' names, then you could chase up those companies to see if there's any preserved benefits.

For reasons of confidentiality and data protection, you will probably need to provide a death certificate and proof of a bona fide connection to the deceased's estate (e.g. a copy of the will naming you as executor) before they will disclose this data to you.
